Dr. Derek Plonka, a highly skilled healthcare professional with more than two decades of experience in physical therapy, acupuncture, and sports medicine. He has been licensed as a Physical Therapist since 2000 and as an Acupuncturist since 2014. He holds dual licenses in California and Rhode Island and maintains a private practice in West Los Angeles, California, where he integrates his full licensed scope of practice in physical therapy, acupuncture, and sports performance.

Additional credentials include NCCAOM Diplomate in Oriental Medicine, APTA Board Certified Sports Clinical Specialist, NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor. He serves on the Volunteer Medical Staff for USA Fencing, providing care at local, national, and international events. As an avid Sabre fencer, Dr. Plonka actively competes in regional and national tournaments. His personal experience as an athlete informs his understanding of sport-specific movement, injury prevention, and performance demands.

 

Outside the clinic and fencing community, he enjoys snowboarding, volunteering as a ski patroller with the San Bernardino Mountain Patrol, and spending time with his family and pets.
